Recovery Toolkit

Thingness and Mental Wellbeing

The Recovery Toolkit is a collection of tools designed to support recovery from Depression.

By 2020 Depression will be the second most debilitating disease on the planet. 1 in 4 people will suffer from Depression at some time in their life with 1 in 10 currently experiencing an episode. 15% of sufferers commit suicide. Women are twice as likely to suffer as men and children as young as 8 are now being prescribed Prozac. To date the design community has almost entirely failed to respond.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment but it isn't easily scalable. However objects can be easily mass-produced. Leveraging existing CBT therapies and research into the opposite of Depression the tools were designed to support recovery. As the way we behave affects how we think and feel the tools also encourage behaviours that engender good mental health.
